  • The fashion establishment is best known for its cut-price pieces of clothing that adorn major designer brands. The items so intricately stitched that it is almost impossible to tell from the original. It is pretty much the same with cosmetics and other accessories as well.

  • Presently, House of Fashions is considered to be the largest retail store under single ownerships in South Asia.
  • Its beginnings, however, were very small and just like any other retail store out there in Sri Lanka.
  • It was in 1992 when Preethi and Neelamani Jayawardene started operations in just a ten-by-ten fashion store selling your usual clothes.
  • What made their products stand out from the rest, however, was the great quality and cheap rates it went for, making many shopaholics stop by and purchase whatever they could find. Any person that went inside the shop would come out with at least a little trinket.
  • The entrepreneurs’ real success came with the opening of the outlet at a central location in Duplication Road, where many additions were brought in, such as cosmetics, perfumes and even home ware accessories.
  • Due to its enormous success, the two entrepreneurs decided to give a wider selection to their loyal customers to choose from, including a few designer brands too (albeit knock offs or factory rejects).
  • Thus the opening of the 250,000 square foot, five - star hotel like, department store in 2013, serving up just what the loyal customers wanted.
  • Moreover, House of Fashions is just one of a few establishments in the country that operate on such a people friendly concept.

Times, Seasons and Tips

  • It is opened throughout the year, albeit at varying times. It is opened on Mondays and Poya Days from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
  • The operating hours from Tuesday to Friday, along with Sunday is from 10:00am to 8:00pm and the operating hours on Saturday is from 10:00am to 9:00pm.
  • Many might wonder about the prices of the contents of the department store, however, do not worry about that, as the store caters to the budgeted shopper as well as the shopper looking to splash the cash.
  • Credit and debit cards are accepted here, so you do not have to worry about having cash on you.
  • One drawback is that there are not many dressing rooms to try out the products. You could try out the products at the aisles if the dressing rooms are occupied, but all products may not be possible. If a product does not fit you properly you could always return it.

All in all, the establishment really does stand up to its name of being a ‘House of Fashions’ with its provision of the best quality products (even if they are not necessarily branded ones), along with some useful electronic and homeware accessories.
