Strathisla Guest House

Hidden away in the hinterlands of Matale, roughly 30 KM from the cultural centre of Kandy, is a peaceful Yoga and holiday retreat: ‘Strathisla Guest House’.

Best Known For

Squirreled away amid sprawling tea and spice gardens, the ‘Strathisla Guest House’ oozes an old-world-charm-meets-highland-serenity character, crafting a hidey-hole for those wishing to escape bland routines. Strategically positioned within the island’s cultural triangle, this former planter bungalow makes a serene base to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kandy and Sigiriya.

The Experience

This boutique-style respite in Matale is comprised of a Bungalow, Villa and the Monkey Manor. Spaciously appointed, the Bungalow consists of 4 bedrooms and cosy living areas. The Villa offers a double bed and 2 single beds while the majestic Monkey Manor contains 3 bedrooms, lounge areas and a private plunge pool.

From Sri Lankan classics, the likes of rice and curry, roti, string hoppers, bread fruit and hoppers to toasts and pancakes; delightful treats are arrayed on the pool-view dining terrace. Relax and strengthen in an effective posture at the mountain-facing Yoga centre and feel Ayurvedic bliss at the massage room.

Around and About

Located between Dambulla and Kandy, Matale is characterised by its sprawling cinnamon, rubber, coconut and spice plantations. Surrounded by idyllic hills, the peaceful, fertile town offers historic and scenic attractions, including the Old Clock Tower, Fort McDowell and Aluvihare Rock Temple.

‘Strathisla’, a highland bungalow for when you want to escape the city smog.
