Around and About

Materializing from the ancient sod of the North Central Province, the sun-soaked monument gardens of Anuradhapura lies on the banks of the Malwathu Oya River. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well-preserved ruins and ancient civilizations, this monastic city is the cultural and architectural stronghold of the tropical isle. The sprawling, museum-like city contains a myriad of architectural wonders: lofty Stupas of the Ruwanweliseya and the Jetavanaramaya, sacred fig tree of the Sri Maha Bodhi, brazen palace of the Lovamahapaya, twin ponds of the Kuttam Pokuna and muraled halls of the Isurumuniya are a few fabled sights.

Anuradhapura; from the sun-dried bricks of crumbling temples to ancient reservoirs from days of King Dutugemunu, the sacred city feels like an intriguing chronicle…
