Nestled on the edge of the Galle Face Green Seaside Promenade, the atmospheric paradise of ‘Galle Face Hotel’ is a rich evocation of the architectural magnificence of the 18th century.

Best Known For

A glorious renovation of a classic hotel built in 1864, ‘Galle Face Hotel’ mixes vintage grandeur with modern sophistication. A grand gathering place during its over 150 years of existence, hints of its former life are still intact along elevator shafts, old corridors and balustrades.

The Experience

The rooms and suites at this legendary hotel in Colombo have been refashioned to accommodate modern lines, whilst retaining its nostalgic colonial feel. The Superior Rooms are known for their wooden finishes, the Landmark Rooms, for their sumptuous upholstery. All Premium Rooms afford views of the Indian Ocean, whilst certain rooms are equipped with private sea-front balconies. Dovetailed with large windows, high ceilings and timeless designs, the Junior Suites recreate an old-meets-modern atmosphere. Sleeping up to 8, the Empress Suite offers 3 stately bedrooms and a sitting area. Tucked at the top of the edifice, the King Emperor Suite is steeped in blissful privacy and picture-perfect views. The brightly-appointed Presidential Suite features an airy seating room which is perfect for a 10 guest cocktail party. The Royal Thai Suite, Royal Dutch Suite, Commonwealth Suite and Ceylon Suite, each revels in a unique colour palette, breathing life to a glorious bygone era.

From gracious European dinners at ‘The 1864 Restaurant and Wine Cellar’, Ceylonese flavours at ‘The Verandah’, to snacks at ‘The Pool Bar’, spirituous nightcaps at ‘The Traveller’s Bar’, musical nights at ‘In…On the Green’ and evening cocktails at ‘Chequerboard’ - epicurean gastronomic voyages entice one.

The sea-front swimming pool is flanked by a sunset terrace where one can while away a whole morning. Housed in the South Wing of the hotel, the museum brims with nostalgic artifacts, featuring a 1935 Standard Nine vintage car. The South lawn entertains croquet games. This hotel and spa also consists of a library, fitness centre and spa.
