Cocoon Hills

The 6 bedroomed English Mock Tudor Bungalow of ‘Cocoon Hills’ is nestled amidst the ravishing mountains of Nuwara Eliya, often compared to the 18th century English Countryside. The idyllic backdrop, located approximately 170 KM from Colombo, sets the stage for a pageantry of waterfalls, streams and tea fields.

Best Known For

The countryside bungalow skilfully recreates the ambiance of quaint Tudor style cottages which graced the English countryside centuries ago. Wooden furnishings, quirky knickknacks and paintings of rural scenes immediately convey you into an old-fashioned destination, where agendas have no place. Old world architecture and themes craft the rhythm for endless repose.

The Experience

This Nuwara Eliya hotel features a main bungalow and an adjoining annex. The main bungalow consists of a living room, dining area and 4 bedrooms. The annex which includes a living room, dining area and 2 bedrooms easily converts into a family suite. ‘Cocoon Hills’ presents an American breakfast spread along with an à la carte menu for all day dining. Tables are set out on the breezy patio and lawn as well as in the warmth of the dining room.

Pick an intriguing book from the library and plough through it from a scenic seat in the 25 year old garden. Bask in the pleasure of a night time board game as brisk winds whip about the bungalow. Live a night in the shoes of a countryside dweller as a fire place gleams, rosy flames radiating from it. Turn those in room heaters on and settle into woolly blankets as the night flows in.

Around and About

Inked in by the musing blue mountains is the Little England of Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya. Sporting a laid-back character, the town luxuriates in the pick-me-up, brisk winds that characterize the weather of the hill country. Studded with echoes from the colonial era, the mountain station is the home to many-a-century-old residences and cottages some of which have now been converted into hotels. The Victorian style pink brick post office whisks you into a time, old and romantic. Saunter the breath-taking tea gardens that seem to sweep through to eternity, taking in the salutary air. Go for a walk in the Hakgala Botanical Garden admiring its roses, orchids and other lush plant and blossom life. Go on a morning picnic to the Gregory’s Lake and enjoy a boat ride on its glistening waters. Later, tuck into a cheerful sandwich seated on its grass-strewn banks. Trek the Horton Plains National Park in the blush of the day, marvelling at its flora and fauna, the World’s End and Baker’s Falls. Delight in the outlandish, lavish flowers and manicured lawns of the Victoria Park. In April, as the springtide brings in festivity cheer, the tranquil town wakes up from its dreams to many celebrations which include horse races, flower shows, golf and tennis tournaments.

The rose-red flames that bob from the fireplace make ephemeral, dream-like shadows on the living room. You are snuggled on a couch, feet up, with a book. As you sip on a mug of silky brown hot chocolate, you wish this moment never ends.
