Under the eaves of the nostalgic verandah of Colombo’s grand dame, the ‘Galle Face Hotel’ - elegant breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner feasts bloom out - against a backdrop of windy oceans.

The Menu

The buffets, as well as, the all day dining menu, encapsulate old-school and contemporary European dishes, Ceylonese classics and Asian flavours. From the Fall essential, Roasted Tomato Soup and the British-Raj favourite, Mulligatawny, to the Mediterranean classic, Greek Salad and the cashew-sprinkled Grilled Pork Glass Noodle Salad, delicious starters await one. In the appetizer collection, Beer Battered Prawns, Chicken Satay and Vegetable Samosas tickle your taste buds.

The Continental Cheese Platter bristling with Emmental, Cheddar and Neufchatel and the Continental Charcuterie Plate arraying cold cuts are meant to inspire the diner with a bouquet of fine, classic flavours. In a tribute to the continental gastronomy, Fish and Chips, Spanish Mackerel Fillets, Prawn Tagliatelle, New Zealand Lamb Chops and Poached Eggs Benedicts deliver epicurean tastes. Sri Lankan Rice and Curry, Lamb Biryani. Mutton Rogan Josh, Paneer Tikka Makhani and Nasi Goreng are anchored by exotic Asian herb and spice seasonings.

Smoked Ham Panini, Lamb Kofta Kebab Wraps and Grilled Chicken Clubs captivate the Sandwich lover. Culling many things delightful, the dessert collection smells of Nonya Pancakes, Chocolate Brownies, Cheesecakes, Panna Cotta and Ice Cream. A fine menu of old and new world wines complements the grand dishes.

The Experience

During its gracious existence of more than a century and a half, ‘The Verandah’ has hosted many an elite, author and adventurer. Clad in earthy colours and black rattan chairs, nostalgic old-world motifs and Ceylonese heritage is still intact along its pillared structures. Lavished on the edge of the Galle Face Green, ‘The Verandah’ is the epitome of a sun’s dining retreat, East of the Suez. This grand restaurant also hosts themed dinner buffets, the likes of Tandoori, Thai and Japanese nights.
