The 1864 Restaurant and Wine Cellar

Named in reminiscence to the foundation year of the atmospheric paradise of ‘Galle Face Hotel’, ‘The 1864 Restaurant and Wine Cellar’ pairs European cuisine with old and new world wines, encapsulating its British legacy.

The Menu

Getting your dinner to a chic start, the Small Plate Collection serves the festival favourite, Foie Grass Crème Brulee; watermelon-and-pomegranate-sprinkled Warm Goat Cheese Praline; and Grilled King Scallops on a nest of veggies. Notes of ricotta mousse and milk croutons coze in the garden favourite, Cream of Zucchini Soup whilst vegetable crisps and chive sour cream dance through the rich broth, Quail Pot Au-Feu.

From Braised Australian Lamb Shank, infused with mild island spices and shiraz wine and Chicken and Mushroom Agnolotti, reminiscent of browned butter, lemon and thyme, to Goat Cheese Tortellini bristling with smoked eggplant - the Large Plate Collection captures sophisticated European culinary offerings. Powered by a grill, Yellow Fin Tuna Steaks, Jumbo Prawns, Australian Beef Tenderloin and Lamb Chops are served alongside butter-coated potatoes, wilted spinach and sautéed forest mushrooms; jazzed up with sauces like béarnaise, black peppercorn and Shiraz wine.

Inspired by timeless combinations of Europe’s dainty indulgences, rich chocolate ganache meets artisan coffee ice cream in Chocolate Delice whilst sun-ripened fruits tumble in the Fresh Fruit Platter. Court Lodge Peoke Tea is paired with fresh milk, in a perfect evening refreshment and the malty Kenilworth Peoke is kicked up with a whisper of lemon. Café Royal, Calypso and Irish Coffees bring stunning finales to grand dinners.
