The Menu

Titled after China’s Shang dynasty, the ‘Shang Palace’ lures your taste buds with an array of starters, the likes of Salt and Pepper Squid, Deep-fried Prawns, Beijing Braised Beef Shank, Tofu Salad, prawn flavoured Hot and Sour Soup and crab meat jazzed Sweet Corn Soup.

The Beijing Duck, a gastronomic ritual as old as China itself, hosts condiment-jazzed Crispy Duck Skin, Diced Duck and Duck Broth. Inspired by China’s stunning Dumpling tradition, the Dim Sum theatre turns out steamed treats, the likes of Pork Xiao Long Bao and Crystal prawn, as well as, baked / fried delicacies, the likes of BBQ Chicken Bao and Mushroom Spring Rolls.

The Crab kitchen yields a host of decadent recipes, including Black Pepper, Singapore Chili and Steamed Crab. From Snapper Fillets, Deep-fried Sea Bass and Sizzling Clay Pot Barramundi - to Poached Lamb, Wok-fried Beef and Kung Pao Chicken - seafood and meat relishes are served alongside a host of vegetarian relishes like Stir-fried Mushroom and Wok-fried Okra, as well as Fried Rice and Noodles.

The Experience

Nestled in the third level of the ‘Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo’, the ‘Shang Palace’ draws architectural inspiration from the historical Siheyuan residences found in Beijing and rural Shanxi. From its centerpiece, the duck oven, to the market-style crab kitchen, dim sum kitchen and tableside tea ceremonies, visually-appealing culinary rituals are perfected.
