Nestled amid the stylish, café-studded Park Street in Colombo is the exotic culinary realm of the ‘Monsoon’.

The Menu

Named in appreciation of its namesake South East Asian seasonal rain, this restaurant and bar in Colombo serves home-cooked, cultural and hawker dishes hailing from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The lunch menu fuels your afternoon with exotic flavours and colours, helping escape the mundane work-day: Spicy beef rendang adds passion to coconut rice, in Nasi Lemak; Thai noodle salad and fried squid laze over steamed rice, in the Thai Seafood; Vietnamese Noodles float across a warm chicken broth, in Pho Ga; Satay Maranggi pairs grilled chicken skewers with pickled tomatoes.

In the hearty dinner menu, an array of Small Bowls and Sharing Plates brim with salads, soups and light bites: Dried shrimp and lime accents dance through in the Som Tum Papaya Salad; The pork bone and tea soup, Bak Kut Teh is buttoned up with herbs and spices; Vietnamese Goi Cuon Rolls brown in hoisin peanut dipping sauce. The Main Bowls collection which includes golden Kam Heong Prawns, tomato-sambal-piqued Sweet and Soy Chicken and green-mango-salad-flanked Koh Samui Crispy Fish is served alongside rice, homemade sambals and vegetable relishes.

An array of Fresh Juices, Cocktails, Wines and Spirits are meant to spark up your meal. Mango Sticky Rice, Kukus Bandung Brownies and Coconut Crêpes offer a bit of dessert-licious escapism.

The Experience

Located at Park Street, the ‘Monsoon’ exudes a stylish, rustic ambiance. High roofs lend it an airy atmosphere whilst red brick walls and cut cement floors add to the character. Potted palms and ferns sit on iron racks, establishing the restaurant’s appreciation of the tropical.
