Governor’s Restaurant

From old-school European meat classics to sizzling BBQs; from tastes of the Silk Route and India to beloved Mediterranean treats; from exotic native recipes to inspired dishes of Colonial Ceylon…

The Menu

Named in appreciation of Sir Thomas Maitland, the British governor behind the majestic ‘Mount Lavinia Hotel’, the ‘Governor’s Restaurant’ culls together myriads of continental and regional specialties, in its grand buffets and a la carte menu. In appetizer selections, Caesar and Thai Cobb Salads, comforting Vegetable Pistous and French Onion Soups are interspersed with Beef Capriccios and Baked Crab.

Norwegian Salmon Fillets, Rock Lobster Thermidor, Bourbon Glazed Pork Ribs, Beef Sirloin and Herb-marinated Chicken are paired with garden salads, mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables and béarnaise, café butter or pepper sauces - in a sumptuous capture of Europe’s grilled culinary wealth. Lobster-tossed Ravioli and parmiggiano-reggiano-sprinkled Saffron Risotto bring a true taste of Italy. A Chinese wok turns out Red Dragon favourites, such as Kung Pao, Szechuan Spicy Pork and Black Pepper Mullets while the Kashmiri-spiced Mutton Roganjosh, creamy Paneer Makhani and Tandoori Chicken are paired with exotic Rotti, to transport one to the sun-soaked streets of India. In Village Style Chicken, White Fish and Beef Red Curries served alongside Steamed Rice - and crispy, creamy Hoppers paired with Onion Relish - authentic Sri Lankan culinary notes are recreated.

Tropical recipes like Bibikkan (coconut cake), Watalappan (coconut custard pudding) and Curd with Treacle, as well as, dreamy Chocolate and Praline Domes, Crème Brûlées and Mousses come together in an after-meal refreshment symphony.

The Experience

Steeped in old-world charm, the ‘Governor’s Restaurant’ is graciously dovetailed with colonial architectural motifs. Come night time, themed buffets of gastronomic flair arrests one’s senses; with each day of the week paying tribute to a distinct culinary legacy.
