On Walukarama Road, in the heart of Colombo 3, lies the gateway to an Eastern gastronomic sanctuary: ‘Eastern Wok’. The stylish restaurant cooks up a storm with Chinese, Indian and Arabic flavourings.

The Menu

From the modestly-spiced, non-greasy cuisine of Guangzhou and the seasonal gastronomic delights of Jiangsu; to the spicy, bold flavours of Sichuan and the exotic culinary ingredients of Shandong: Chinese cuisine sounds like a total treat. Inspired by its extravagance, this multi-cuisine restaurant in Colombo offers up over 60 Chinese dishes. The seafood selections showcase around 20 treats, including the Sizzling Lobster, Singapore Chili Crab, Jumbo Prawns with Hot Butter Sauce, Braised Cuttlefish and Steamed Garoupa. The meat offerings highlight diced, devilled, sizzled and shredded meals, including the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sizzling Black Pepper Beef and Braised Mutton. The Devilled Mushroom, Hot Butter Cauliflower and Kang Kung Sauté entice the vegetarian. From Prawn Fried Rice and Nasi Goreng, to Mee Goreng and Fried Noodles, Rice and Noodle preparations are indulgent.

Known as a good place for tasting Indian cuisine in Colombo, ‘Eastern Wok’ dishes out flavoursome interpretations of Indian culinary classics, including Korma, Masala and Kadai style dishes, featuring the Navaratna Korma, Chicken Kadai and Prawn Masala. Indian Bread offerings, such as Naan and Chapatti, as well as, an array of Biryani are also on the cards.

Intrigued by centuries-old recipes found amongst the pages of olden cookbooks of the Arab world, ‘Eastern Wok’ crafts up a range of seasoning-soaked dishes. Traditional Mezze style dishes include the Levantine chickpea dip, Hummus and the vegetarian salad, Tabbouleh. The Sandwiches collection showcases the marinated chicken treat, Shish Taouk and the Eastern Wok Club Sandwich. Tempting Rice offerings include the Kabsa, Iranian and Sayyadiya Rice, served with meat and fish accompaniments.

Nestled at an easily accessible location in Colpetty, ‘Eastern Wok’ rejoices in minimalistic designs, with a touch of Oriental motif. The main dining area sports a cosy and stylish vibe which is perfect for casual meet-ups. The restaurant also houses private dining rooms and a VIP room for entertaining corporate events and private parties. Laid-back and uncluttered, ‘Eastern Wok’ can easily accommodate 130 patrons at a time.
