Located at ‘Cinnamon Grand’ in the heart of Colombo, ‘Chutneys’ is deliciously evocative of every taste South Indian: crispy masala vadai, spicy pakodas, juicy rasam, eclectic Thali platters, dosai, appam and idli.

The Menu

Hosting myriads of dishes hailing from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andra Pradesh, the menu at ‘Chutneys’ is truly a treat, for the vegetarian and the non-vegetarian alike. From masala-coated Fried Idli, spicy Bonda and Ulundu Vadai, to the Crab Fest Nandu Poriyal and the roast chicken treat, Andhra Kodi - the Arambam selections brim with exotic starters. A range of traditional Soups spoons out the Crab Meat Rasam, Tamarind Rasam and Mutton Saaru.

Inspired by sour, salty, sweet, bitter, pungent and astringent notes that pep up Tamil Nadu’s sprightly gastronomy, an array of dishes, the likes of Fenugreek Curry, Cottage Cheese Kurma, Pepper Masala Lobster, Garam Masala Mutton Dumplings and Mutton Varuval entice. Kerala’s delicious community recipes include Ladies Fingers Theeyal, Black Chickpea Curry, Seer Fish Polichathu and Chili Coriander Chicken. Dressed in tempting seasonings, Tomato Pappu Koora, Masala Wada Pulusu and Prawn Iguru are deeply redolent of Andra’s culinary heritage, which entertains the spiciest South Indian flavours. The Karnataka section highlights Cuttlefish Masala, Mysore Chili Chicken and Spinach Palya.

South India’s everyday preparations, such as Chicken Biryani, Aappam, Idli, Parata, Poori and Chapathi embody delicious rice-y and flour-ey concoctions. The Dosai bazaar dishes out over 30 types of the exotic Indian pancake, including the Tomato Uttappam, Mysore Masala, Mutton Keema and Rava. Cap off your hearty meal with an irresistible dessert classic, such as Laddu, Kesari, Kulfi or Gulab Jamun.

The Experience

Styled to deliver a vibrant mood, the interiors of ‘Chutneys’ sport a black-meets-pink-and-orange colour scheme. The huge glass windows afford views of the greenery, establishing a sense of nature in the midst of the buzzing city. Gorgeous modern chairs sit at wooden tables whilst cosy sofas line the window-side. The exotic scent of Indian spices linger the air, crafting the mood for good food.
