Race the Pearl - 2nd Edition

Bike halfway across the country from its Northern tip to its Southern, in a grippingly exhilarating race against time: ‘Race the Pearl’. The Ultra Endurance Cycling Race and Challenge by ‘Spinner’s Club’ is back for its 2nd edition and welcomes the avid enthuse to indulge in their love of cycling in the company of peers whilst enhancing their individual capabilities in sports.

As 600 kilometres of paved road is biked across, immerse in urban and rural local life in all their rustic glory and the backdrop of natural features afforded throughout. ‘Race the Pearl’ is a celebration of the freedom the country now has, in one’s ability to travel across homeland ground, from North to the South, in 3 impressive, cycling feats.

Sign up for a race that befits your own capabilities or venture onto a challenge; the 24 Hour Race, the 28 Hour Challenge or the Team Relay. With the mandate being to strengthen one’s endurance, to push one’s physical capabilities to its limits and expand their scope, bike from Point Pedro to Point Dondra, along scenic beaches, jungle terrain, paddy fields and past historical ruins; a run-through of half of the Pearl’s natural beauty, culture and heritage, on a heart-racing bike leg across the country.

A key aspect of this sports event in Sri Lanka is the aid of children suffering from cerebral palsy. Each kilometre biked helps raise funds for the purchase of wheelchairs, with the overall goal being to raise funds for 10,000 wheelchairs and 2,200 having been collected as of now.
